HARTFORD, CT (April 17, 2018) – Celebrate Earth Day at the Connecticut Science Center with exciting hands-on activities, including the all-new Live Science Demo, Renewable Racing presented by Air Liquide. Explore different kinds of energy sources with renewable resource powered cars. Find out which goes the fastest and the furthest – hydrogen, solar, or wind-powered. As it has in the past, Earth Day marks the official opening of the Rooftop Garden at the Science Center. Enjoy the views of Hartford and the Connecticut River while exploring numerous varieties of native plants. Or, take in the beauty of Michaela’s Garden Project sponsored by the Petit Family Foundation. For this year’s planting activity, Connecticut Science Center Horticulturist Kimberly Kelly has selected the Black Eyed Susan. These beautiful annuals are native to Connecticut, and when planted in large groups, they are great for attracting native butterflies. Take home your perfectly planted Black-Eyed Susan to create your own Butterfly Encounter. Take a break with story time featuring Connecticut children’s author Lynn Rosenblatt and her book, Monarch Magic. Dive even deeper into the story with Lynn as she helps children to create “Flutterby Puppets” through arts & crafts. Close the day out with An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, the follow-up to An Inconvenient Truth. Follow Former Vice President Al Gore as he continues his fight for international climate policy. An Inconvenient Sequel is over an hour and half long and is rated PG. An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power will replace the regularly scheduled 3 PM movie; movies are $5 for members/ $6 for youth (3-17) and seniors (65+)/ $7 for adults (18-64). All Earth Day activities (except the An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power), including Renewable Racing presented by Air Liquide and access to the Rooftop Garden, are included in the cost of General Admission or Connecticut Science Center Membership.
